All major brands

From a 1990s Maytag dryer to a 2024 Sub-Zero column. Factory parts, manufacturer-spec procedures, real diagnostic tools.

Whirlpool is one of the largest appliance makers in the United States, and the same company also makes Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir. Many of those machines share motors, pumps, control boards and fault codes, which is good news for owners: Whirlpool parts are easy to get, most repairs are straightforward, and a well-kept Whirlpool is usually worth fixing.

People searching for Whirlpool repair mostly ask about dryers, then dishwashers, refrigerators and freezers, cooktops and washers, and that is the order below. DP Appliance Repair covers Greenville and Spartanburg counties. A technician diagnoses the appliance, you get the price before any work starts, and the finished repair has a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty.

Whirlpool dryer repair: no heat, slow drying, Check Vent

Whirlpool dryers are simple machines, and when one stops heating the cause is usually one of a handful of parts. On electric models that means the heating element, the thermal fuse or the cycling and high-limit thermostats. On gas models it means the igniter, the flame sensor or the gas valve coils. When the thermal fuse has blown, it is worth asking why: a fuse opens because the dryer overheated, and a restricted vent is the most common reason.

Many Whirlpool dryers have a Check Vent indicator that lights up when airflow is poor. Treat it as a real warning. Clean the lint screen, pull the dryer out, clear the duct and check that the outside flap opens freely. Long vent runs to the roof or through a crawl space, common in older homes around Spartanburg and Taylors, clog faster than a short run straight through the wall.

  • Squeal or thump while tumbling: idler pulley, drum rollers or the belt.
  • Drum will not turn but the motor runs: broken belt.
  • Nothing happens at all: door switch, start switch, a tripped half of the double breaker, or the thermal fuse on models where it cuts power to the motor.
  • Clothes come out hot but damp: almost always airflow, not the heater.

Whirlpool dishwasher repair: draining, filling, cleaning

Newer Whirlpool dishwashers report faults as a two-part code, such as F9 E1, which means the dishwasher took too long to drain. On models without a code display, the Clean or Start light blinks in a pattern instead. Either way, drain trouble is the most common Whirlpool dishwasher complaint, and it often starts somewhere you can reach yourself.

  • Not draining: most current Whirlpool dishwashers have a manual-clean filter under the lower rack. Twist it out and rinse it. Then check the drain hose under the sink and, if a disposal is connected, run the disposal first.
  • Not filling or only filling a little: make sure the hot-water valve under the sink is fully open. A dishwasher that still will not fill needs its inlet valve or float switch checked.
  • Dishes dirty on top only: look for a spray arm that is blocked or cracked, or dishes on the lower rack stopping it from turning.
  • Door leaks: a worn door gasket, too much detergent, or a unit that is not level.

A drain pump, inlet valve, door latch or control board are all normal repairs on a Whirlpool dishwasher. A rusted tub or a leaking sump on an older machine is the point where replacement is usually the better value.

Whirlpool refrigerator and freezer repair

Whirlpool refrigerators come in for three kinds of trouble: not cooling, ice and water problems, and leaks. When the freezer is cold but the fresh-food side is warm, the evaporator fan or the defrost system is usually at fault; frost across the back wall of the freezer is the giveaway. When both sides are warm, check the condenser coils underneath or at the back, and listen for the condenser fan. A dusty coil and a stalled fan can look exactly like a failing compressor.

Ice makers that stop, freeze up or overfill, and dispensers that barely trickle, usually trace to the water filter, the inlet valve or a frozen fill tube. Water on the floor under the fridge is most often a clogged defrost drain or a cracked supply line. Upright and chest freezers follow the same logic: a freezer that frosts heavily or runs constantly should be checked before a full load of food is lost.

Repair or replace: fans, defrost parts, valves, ice makers and control boards are reasonable repairs. A sealed-system problem on an older refrigerator is where the numbers deserve a second look, and the technician will spell out both options.

Whirlpool cooktop, range and oven repair

Whirlpool glass-top cooktops mostly fail one burner at a time. A burner that will not heat, heats only on high, or stays on after you turn it off usually needs a new element or burner switch. A burner that works but has a crack in the glass above it should not be used until the top is replaced. On gas cooktops, igniters that click without lighting are often cured by drying the burner and reseating its cap.

Whirlpool ovens come in for not heating, uneven baking and temperatures that drift. On electric models the bake or broil element is the usual cause, and a failed element often shows a visible blister or break. On gas models a weak oven igniter can glow without ever opening the gas valve, so the oven stays cold even though you can see the igniter lit. Temperature sensors and control boards round out the list.

Whirlpool washer repair

Whirlpool top-load and front-load washers share several codes. F9 E1 means a long drain, and on many models LF means a long fill. Sd or SUD means the washer detected too many suds, usually from too much detergent or detergent that is not marked HE. A lid that will not lock, a washer that fills but does not agitate, and a drum that will not spin are the common mechanical calls. Clean the drain pump filter on front-loaders and check both inlet taps before booking.

Whirlpool repair: frequently asked questions

Do you repair Whirlpool appliances near me in Greenville or Spartanburg?

Yes. We repair Whirlpool dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, washers, cooktops and ovens across Greenville and Spartanburg counties, including Greer, Mauldin, Taylors, Boiling Springs and Duncan. Call (864) 547-6666; same-day visits are often available when you call before noon.

Should I call Whirlpool or you?

If your Whirlpool is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, call Whirlpool first so the repair is covered. Once the warranty has run out, we repair it at your home, with parts matched to your model number and the price before any work starts.

My Whirlpool dryer is running but not heating. What should I check?

Clean the lint screen, clear the vent duct and check both halves of the breaker on an electric dryer. If it still does not heat, the thermal fuse, heating element, thermostats or gas igniter need to be tested.

What does F9 E1 mean on a Whirlpool dishwasher?

F9 E1 means the dishwasher took too long to drain. Clean the filter under the lower rack, check the drain hose under the sink and run the disposal if one is connected. If the code comes back, the drain pump or drain path needs a technician.

Do you also fix Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana?

Yes. They are made by the same company as Whirlpool and share many parts, and we repair all of them.

How much does Whirlpool refrigerator repair cost?

That depends on the cause. A dirty condenser, a fan motor, a defrost part and a sealed-system problem are different jobs. The technician diagnoses it first, and you get the price before any work starts.
